Video footage taken outside a bar in Nashville has surfaced, purportedly showing country singer Morgan Wallen throwing a chair off the rooftop onto the street below. Wallen was apprehended in Tennessee on Sunday, April 7th, following an incident where two Metro Nashville police officers observed a chair plummeting from above as they were on patrol.
The officers, who had been positioned just a short distance from where the chair landed outside Chief’s Bar on Broadway in Nashville, promptly approached the establishment’s staff to gather information about the incident. According to bar staff, Morgan Wallen, renowned for hits like ‘Last Night’ and ‘Sand In My Boots’, had ascended to the rooftop of the six-story building and was responsible for tossing the chair. Based on an arrest report referenced by News Channel 5, officers had reviewed video footage depicting Wallen “lunging and throwing an object over the roof.”
Footage obtained by TMZ showcases the exterior of Chiefs Bar from the street level, with the bar’s illuminated sign visible at the bottom of the frame. A blurry object can be observed plummeting swiftly to the ground from the rooftop of the bar mere seconds into the clip. In another video circulating on TikTok, purportedly showcasing ‘THE chair’, a Metro Nashville police officer is depicted carrying the chair, which appears to be constructed of metal and wood, down the street and returning it towards the entrance of the bar.
Witnesses informed officers that they had been in the vicinity with Wallen at the time of the incident, claiming they saw him “pick up the chair [and] throw it over him, laughing afterward.”
Following the incident, Wallen was arrested and faced three counts of felony reckless endangerment due to the potential danger posed to both the nearby officers and the public. In addition, he was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct upon his booking into jail, with his bond set at $15,250.
Despite the arrest and charges, Wallen appeared unfazed as he grinned for his mugshot, much to the dismay of fans. Many have expressed outrage, pointing out the potential severity of the situation had the chair hit someone below, potentially resulting in serious injury or even death. Rumors have swirled that Wallen’s shocking behavior may have been prompted by the recent news that his ex-fianceé, Katie ‘KT’ Smith, with whom he shares a child, had eloped just days after announcing she was engaged.
Sources close to Morgan Wallen revealed that the news of KT Smith’s recent marriage to Luke had a profound impact on him. “KT’s marriage to Luke last week just crushed him,” one insider disclosed. “Of course, he knew they were engaged and eventually going to get married, but eloping just days after they got engaged? Morgan has never gotten over her, even though he couldn’t stay faithful to her. And now another man is going to be raising his son. Whatever happened at that bar had to be reality hitting him in the face over losing the love of his life.”
Wallen himself had proposed to Smith after dating on and off from December 2016 to November 2019. They welcomed their son, Indigo, in 2020, who was present to witness his mother’s marriage, as seen in the sweet photographs shared by the newlweds.
In the wake of the incident, several radio stations and streaming services made the decision to remove Wallen’s music from their platforms. Wallen subsequently issued an apology in a video shared on his social media accounts. Additionally, he donated $300,000 to the Black Music Action Coalition. Wallen’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 3rd, according to Davidson County Criminal Court. Coincidentally, this date aligns with Wallen’s ongoing tour, which is slated to reach Nissan Stadium in Nashville on May 2nd.
